Question - Using an OPK While on Clomiphene:
"Please, can you tell me the best time to use a home ovulation kit while taking Clomid?"
Answer:
First, to clarify, Clomid is one of several brand names for the drug Clomiphene citrate, which is commonly the first drug of choice for most physicians in trying to promote ovulation.
Second, by home ovulation kit, we assume you are referring to what is also called an ovulation prediction kit, or OPK.
In general, there are a couple of things that you should do to know specifically when an OPK will be of value to you during a clomiphene treatment cycle:
Next, in my opinion, you should also be monitored by bloodwork and, optimally, vaginal ultrasound to determine how your body is responding to the treatment. If you rely only on a home predictor kit, you could end up mis-spending your money on both OPK's and on medication. Once you're paying to get pregnant, so to speak, you want to use every available resource to make the most of your money and the precious fertile time your treatment is allowing. If your doctor is not already monitoring you with bloodwork and ultrasound, I encourage you to inquire about that at the doc's office.
