I had the privilege of meeting and talking with a few of the members of my local RESOLVE, and I asked them about their own perception of the group, before and after joining.
Like me and so many others, the women I spoke with were worried that they'd walk into an uncomfortable situation at their first meeting. They quickly learned, as did I, that the benefits to being a RESOLVE member had nothing to do with cathartic emotional sharing and everything to do with finding a path through the maze of infertility and its treatment.
Jackie Mitchell, an active, long-time member of Houston's RESOLVE group, states plainly that she, "would never have thought about acupuncture" as a possible remedy had she not learned about it through other members. She has recently given birth after being successfully treated with acupuncture.
Jackie refers to an "infertility underground" in which experienced patients share with newer ones the "real story" behind doctors' claims of success. It's the kind of information that a consumer cannot get from a clinic's website or printed sales materials.
In addition, and particularly at the annual symposium, folks are given the opportunity to meet their potential doctors in person. There's no better way to size up the professional who may be a key to your reproductive future.
