When the French came, a significant part of Colorado was considered a part of French Louisiana and sold to the USA during the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. However, there were no permanent European settlements in the area of Colorado, until the 1850s when the Hispanics moved here.

In the 1850s and 1860s, Colorado witnessed the age of gold rushes. Twenty years later, silver was mined here. Denver was founded in 1858 and its population grew rapidly. On February 28, 1861, the Territory of Colorado was organized. On August 1, 1876, Colorado became the 38th state.
