General Information

Tennessee is a state located in the eastern United States, in the eastern southern states in the southern region of the USA. Tennessee borders Kentucky and Virginia to the north, North Carolina to the east, Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi to the south, and Arkansas and Missouri to the west.

History

The first Spanish explorers arrived in the region in the second third of the 16th century. The first British settlement in the area was established in 1756 and the territory was part of North Carolina.

In 1790, the Southwest Territory was established here, which later took the name of the local Cherokee town of Tanasi. Tennessee became the 16th US state on June 1, 1796.

During the American Civil War, Tennessee was part of the Confederation from 1861 to 1865, and rejoined the Union in 1866.

Tennessee - Quick guide

Tennessee is the 36th largest state in the United States, the 16th most populous state in terms of population (6.7 million) and 20th in terms of population density of 62 inhabitants per km2. The capital is Nashville with 640,000 inhabitants.

The highest point of the state is the peak of Clingmans Dome with an altitude of 2025 m in the Great Smoky Mountains. The largest streams are the Mississippi River, forming the border with Missouri and Arkansas, Tennessee, Clinch, Holston and Cumberland.

Fun facts

Perhaps no other city in the United States can match Nashville in terms of music. It has been the most important center of country music since the 1960s. This is evidenced not only by many recording studios, but also by a number of music festivals.

The biggest of them is the CMA Music Festival, which takes place in June and lasts for four days, and for country fans it is a great opportunity to get to the concert of their favorite artist and possibly go to him to sign.
