Utah (officially the State of Utah) is a state located in the western United States, in the area of mountain states in the western region of the United States. Utah, one of the Four Corners states, borders Idaho in the north, Wyoming in the northeast, Colorado in the east, Arizona in the south, and Nevada in the west.
The first European was able to reach the area of present-day southern Utah in 1540, and several reconnaissance expeditions to this region were organized by the Spaniards in the third quarter of the 18th century.
In the early 19th century, some areas of Utah were explored by merchants and hunters of European descent. In 1850, Utah territory was established in the United States, which got its name from the name of the Jutus Indian tribe, which in their own language meant "people of the mountains."
Utah became the 45th U.S. state on January 4, 1896.
Utah is one of the most religiously homogeneous states in the United States, with about 62% of its population professing Mormonism, which stood at the founding of the state and still has a major impact on Utah culture and daily life.
About 88% of the population lives in the Wasatch Front agglomeration, which is centered in Salt Lake City.
Most of the rest of the country is almost ninhabited and includes very diverse formations from relatively high mountains with perpetually snow-capped peaks, through valleys with large watercourses to stony and salt deserts.
The motto of the state is "Industry", the flower the lily Calochortus nuttallii, the tree the prickly spruce, the bird the seagull and the song “Utah, We Love Thee”.
