In 1763, Spain exchanged Florida for Havana with the Kingdom of Great Britain. After numerous wars between different groups of various European settlers, Florida gained statehood in 1845.
Much of Florida is on a peninsula, no part of the state is far from the ocean. This also affects the climate, which is humid subtropical and tropical. The nickname of the state “Sunshine State.”
There is a lot of wildlife to see in Florida. Dolphins, different kind of whales, the Florida panther, otters, coyotes, foxes, opossums, rattlesnakes, various kinds of birds and many other animal kinds are to be seen in Florida.
Flora lovers can look forward to seeing various plants. The Florida Reef is the only coral barrier reef in the continental USA, and it extends into national parks, such as Dry Tortugas National Park, Biscayne National Park, or the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary.
There are also cool spots to see apart from the nature, such as Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, Legoland Florida, and lots of museums.
Florida has a unique atmosphere caused by the mix of many cultures. African, European, Latino, Asian, and other heritages influenced the country’s rich cuisine, architecture, and other areas.
