History of Idaho

Originally, Idaho was inhabited by Native Americans. Some of them still live there. In the early 19th century, the area was considered a part of the Oregon Country which the US and the UK kept arguing about. It officially became a US territory in 1846 and Idaho was separated in 1863.

Idaho became the 43rd state on July 3, 1890.

Fun facts about Idaho

When the US Congress started thinking about organizing a new territory in the Rocky Mountains back in the 1860s, “Idaho” was suggested by one of the politicians, claiming it means “the sun comes from the mountains.” However, later it turned out to be a made-up story. The politician then said he had been inspired by a little girl named “Ida.” The true origins of the name remain unclear.

Idaho has two different time zones. While the south is in the Pacific Time Zone, the south is in the Mountain Time Zone.
